GTA 6 Publisher Take-Two Not for Sale, CEO Confirms
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has ruled out any acquisition talks, including with Netflix, ahead of GTA 6's November 2026 launch.
Take-Two Is Staying Independent
Despite ongoing speculation about big-money consolidation in the games industry, Take-Two Interactive — the publisher behind Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto — is not on the market. CEO Strauss Zelnick made that clear in a recent CNBC appearance, flatly dismissing suggestions that the company might be open to a buyout from Netflix or any other potential acquirer.
The question came up partly because Take-Two and Netflix have an existing working relationship. Several Take-Two titles have been distributed through Netflix Games, and the two companies are collaborating on the next GTA 6 trailer reveal via the streaming platform. Some observers wondered whether that partnership could be a stepping stone toward something bigger — Zelnick says it isn't.
Netflix in Games: Partnership, Not Ownership
Zelnick acknowledged that Netflix has clear reasons to invest further in gaming. The streaming giant's core business revolves around growing its subscriber base and keeping users entertained, and games are a natural extension of that strategy. He noted that Netflix has already moved "into the business of games" through deals like the one with Take-Two.
However, when asked whether Netflix might accelerate that push by acquiring a major publisher outright, Zelnick declined to speak for Netflix, noting that historically the company has not pursued large acquisitions. That decision, he said, belongs to Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters.
Red Dead Redemption is currently available to play through Netflix Games, even as some other Take-Two titles have been removed from the service.
What This Means for GTA 6
For fans counting down to GTA 6's November 19, 2026 release, this is largely business-as-usual news. Take-Two remains an independent, publicly traded company focused on shipping what is shaping up to be one of the biggest game launches in history. No ownership change is on the horizon, and Rockstar continues to operate under the same leadership structure it has for years.
