Rockstar attributes this to regional regulations, making Japan the only territory with a publicly stated code expiry window so far.

What Does This Mean in Practice?

170 days works out to just under six months. For most players who buy the game around launch and play it within that window, this won't be an issue at all. Where it could matter:
