Why GTA 6 Won't Appear at the Golden Joysticks

With GTA 6 set to launch on November 19, 2026, the timing simply doesn't work out for one high-profile awards show. The Golden Joystick Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place eight days before the game even hits shelves, which means Rockstar's blockbuster is completely out of the running — not because of any lack of hype, but purely due to the calendar.

The Golden Joystick organisers also required all nominations to be submitted by August 28, 2026, a point at which GTA 6 had not yet been reviewed or released. There was no realistic path to inclusion.

What This Actually Means

In practice, very little. The Golden Joysticks are one stop on a busy awards circuit, and missing them is hardly a dent in GTA 6's reputation. A few things worth keeping in mind:

• The Game Awards take place in December, well after launch — GTA 6 will almost certainly be eligible there.
• BAFTA Games Awards and many critics' end-of-year lists operate on a full calendar-year basis, so 2026 coverage is still very much in play.
• A six-week-old game competing against titles that reviewers have lived with for months will face its own challenges regardless of eligibility.

The Golden Joystick miss is a quirk of scheduling, not a sign of any problem with the game itself.
