GTA 6 Leaker Still Unidentified, Rockstar Stays the Course
Rockstar has yet to pinpoint who leaked recent GTA 6 gameplay footage, but marketing plans including the Netflix reveal remain unchanged.
Rockstar Yet to Find the Source
A new Bloomberg report reveals that Rockstar Games has not yet identified the person or group behind the latest wave of GTA 6 gameplay leaks — nor has the studio determined exactly how the breach occurred. According to the report, a senior executive sent an internal memo to staff this week acknowledging the incident, pushing back against the leaker's actions, and reassuring the team that this setback would not overshadow the quality of their work.
The leaks themselves appear to be tied to an attempt to generate hype around a memecoin, rather than any traditional whistleblowing or rival-industry espionage. That context makes the breach feel particularly cynical, and it is easy to understand why Rockstar leadership felt compelled to address it directly with employees.
Marketing Plans Remain Unchanged
Despite speculation that the leaks might force Rockstar to rethink its upcoming reveal event on Netflix — currently scheduled for August 27 — Bloomberg's sources indicate the studio has no intention of altering those plans. The marketing roadmap is moving forward as designed.
This is a meaningful signal: Rockstar is treating the leak as a security matter, not a reason to panic publicly or rush any announcements.
Precedent Cuts Both Ways
It is worth noting that Rockstar has pivoted in response to leaks before. When GTA 6's debut trailer leaked in December 2023, the studio released the official version ahead of schedule to regain control of the narrative. That history is why many fans assumed a similar move might happen now — but for the moment, no such change appears to be coming.
The 2022 GTA 6 footage leak was one of the largest in gaming history, and Take-Two leadership described it as deeply frustrating at the time. The company weathered that storm without lasting financial damage, which likely gives Rockstar confidence it can do the same again.
