GTA 6 Download Size: How Big Will It Be?

GTA 6 fans are speculating the day-one download could hit 100–250 GB, so now is the time to free up storage space.

How Big Could the GTA 6 Install Actually Be?

With the November 19, 2026 launch getting closer, one practical question is gaining traction in the community: just how much storage space will GTA 6 demand? A poll running on ResetEra shows most fans settling on a range of 100 GB to 250 GB, which is a wide window but a historically reasonable one.

For context, Red Dead Redemption 2 — Rockstar's last major open-world release, way back in 2018 — already weighed in at roughly 105–150 GB depending on platform. Game install sizes have climbed steadily since then, and GTA 6's map and visual ambition are expected to dwarf anything Rockstar has shipped before. Somewhere north of 150 GB feels like a safe conservative estimate.

Why This Matters More Than Usual

The install size question carries extra weight this time around because GTA 6 is effectively a digital-only release — physical copies ship with nothing but a download code in the box. That means every single player, regardless of how they buy it, will be pulling the full game over the internet.

Rockstar has confirmed a preload window opening one week before launch, so you won't be stuck downloading on release day — but you will want your storage sorted well in advance.

How to Prepare Now

  • Audit your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S storage today and identify games you can delete or archive.
  • Consider a compatible M.2 SSD expansion for PS5 or an external storage solution for Xbox if you're running low.
  • Keep an eye on the GTA 6 news page — Rockstar or retailers may confirm an official file size closer to launch.
  • Queue up the preload the moment it goes live to avoid any day-one bottlenecks.

In short: clear some space, start the preload early, and you should be fine — just don't leave it to the last minute.
