GTA 6: Dan Houser Says He's Avoiding the Game

The Co-Creator Who Won't Watch

Dan Houser, who co-founded Rockstar Games and played a central role in shaping the Grand Theft Auto series, has revealed that he has deliberately avoided watching anything related to GTA 6 — and plans to keep it that way. Speaking publicly on the topic, Houser made clear this is a conscious personal choice rather than an oversight.

Houser departed Rockstar back in 2020 after more than two decades with the studio, and GTA 6 has been developed entirely without his involvement. It appears he prefers to keep a clean emotional distance from the project that the franchise has become.

Why the Deliberate Distance?

While Houser didn't elaborate extensively, the sentiment is understandable for someone who poured so much creative energy into earlier entries in the series. Watching a beloved franchise evolve under new creative direction — even a talented one — is clearly something he'd rather not do. It's a deeply human response from someone who helped define what GTA means culturally.

This isn't a controversy or a falling out — just one creator choosing to step back from a chapter of something he helped build.

What This Means for GTA 6

In practical terms, Houser's absence from the project changes nothing for players. GTA 6 remains on track for its November 19, 2026 release, and Rockstar has a deep bench of creative talent continuing to shape the game's world, story, and systems.

• The core Rockstar team has been developing GTA 6 for years
• Multiple trailers and reveals have already generated enormous excitement
• Houser's own post-Rockstar studio, Absurd Ventures, is pursuing separate projects

For fans, it's simply an interesting footnote — a reminder of how much the series has grown beyond any single person. Check our news section for the latest GTA 6 updates as launch approaches.
